Dear Loser,
Some dude named “zsolt” over on the Warrior’s Forum wrote this post about how every niche is occupied.
zsolt complained:
Of course, not every niche is occupied, but it sure seems like to me more often than not. I am newbie who just started to give some serious thoughts to IM. I don’t have any experience or background in any kind of business or marketing. I have read many ebook lately, and 99% of them said you gotta find a niche where is a demand, but the competition is not too fierce. OK, sounds simple. But it not. In fact I find this task downright hard. One can only be good at so many thing. So you start searching among those topics and niches. You think you have some idea that might just work. There is a demand, you’re good at it, have the needed skills. But then comes the part of “what about competition”. And this is where I lose all my faith and enthusiasm. No matter what niche I have researched recently, I find that there are already at least a few well established names, companies, websites. There are alreaedy people who made themselves home in the niche, have good reputation, tons of traffic, excelent search engine rankings, etc.I feel stuck at the very first step every ebook begins with: “find a niche”. I feel like I am not making progress. I have doubts, fears. Shall I just jump into a niche where there are already some big dogs? Or keep on looking and find some very exotic niche there’s probably not much demand for, and I don’t know a lot about?
I got the newbies’ blues, and don’t yet know how to overcome it.This afternoon I thought I had an excellent idea. My excitment only lasted a few minutes when I found out that my “this gotta be a winner” idea is not unique at all.
Gurus, newbies…how do/did you cope with frustration of not finding that money making niche.
So I know there are probably a lot of you dudes (and dudettes, I’m not sexist… rofl) out there who feel the same way as zdolt over here. You’re trying to find that golden “untapped” niche that you can sweep into and make mucho dinero with little to no effort.
Well, let me be the first to tell you - you’re wasting your time.
This is OLD SCHOOL niche marketing, jack. Underachiever-style. Maybe when you could get $0.05 cent clicks in Google, finding these untapped niches was profitable. But no longer. Listen - no one has EVER gotten rich marketing to niches.
Have they been successful? Sure! It’s possible to make an extra $5K a month doing hard core niche marketing stuff. But you gotta find these niches, then you gotta test them out, and if you do find a winner, you gotta guard it closely or else have someone swoop in and ruin your business with competition.
But while you’re working your ass off in some niche that no one has ever heard of, I’ll be making even more millions killing it in a BIG niche.
See - you gotta forget about these little niches no one has ever heard about. The big money is in the really COMPETITIVE niches. The ones with billions of competitors. In fact, the more competition, the BETTER!
Why?
Because if you see a lot of people in the market, that means there’s TONS of money to be made in it! The more competition there is in a market, the better proof you have that market is sustainable.
The big markets break down into 3 categories:
-Health
-Wealth
-Relationships
Focus on those three niches and only those three. Why? Because there are literally BILLIONS of dollars in each of these fields.
Then, you can further sub-niche these suckers to find something you can cash in on. For instance:
Health: Weight loss, supplements, exercise & fitness, fat burners, natural cures, etc.
Wealth: Make money, stocks, bonds, trading, credit card debt, mortgages, loans, etc.
Relationships: Viagra, male enhancements, better sex, dating sites, etc.
These are all very competitive niches to go into - but that’s where the MONEY is, baby! Don’t waste your time killing yourself trying to make a couple hundred bucks in the sausage making niche. Instead, kill yourself trying to make a couple hundred thousand bucks in one of these super-competitive niches.
I know what you’re thinking - “But RJ, I’m a total noob! I want to start out small and work my way up!”
Pft!
Listen, bub… cut your teeth on something ambitious, and the small stuff is a walk in the park. I made my first millions teaching people how to get out of credit card debt, not teaching people how to macrome. Get with the program. If you are playing with the big boys, you’ll have to raise yourself to their level to compete.
If you’re playing with the retarded losers, you just stay at their level and compete.
Which would you rather do?
Spend your time going for the money. The hidden niches are a waste of your resources.

I would rather have a smaller piece of the huge pie than all of a pathetically small pie. I agree that it’s much better to go for a sub-section of a gargantuan niche. Successful marketers like yourself RJ, are always telling us smaller guys the same thing: “Don’t reinvent the wheel.” Just go for your piece of a huge industry.
So true, so true RJ.
While micro niches can be good guarding it is really hard. I am only a small time marketer, but 99% of my money has been made in niches where there IS competition - A lot of competition!
You’re spot on as always
Best Regards
Martin Mölsted
Thanks man, that’s what I needed to read. I just moved from small niches (regional and in italian) to larger ones (in english, worldwide). It IS more entertaining.
God I hate to help make your head any bigger than it is, but that’s some of the best advice I have ever, ever heard. Thanks, it helps get my head together and my brain working.
Hmmm, yeah, I tried niche marketing for Clickbank before. Basically promoted obscure markets like MACRAME (haha, yes RJ,you’re right), SOAP MAKING,etc. Complete waste of my time. Sure, i made a few sales, but that didn’t even cover the amount and effort I put in to promote them, i.e. PPC,article directories, review sites. In short, these niche markets sucked for me (maybe I wasn’t doing it the right way?). So ever since then, I’ve learnt to stay far away from obscure niche stuff and zoom in on those same few totally saturated markets, where the real moolah is.
f*cking AWESOME POST!!!!!!!
Dam shit, Just what I have learnt wasting 4 months by trying tapping those stupid niches….And then I realized what I needed to do…only if u had told me that long ago
I wish i could slap all those niche marketing gurus..
The thing I learnt…
It takes same time and dedication for a niche with
0.1 million competiton and 10 million competitive results in Google..
The latter only requires more money but you also make more money out of it..
No wonder why Nancy Andrews also says : f*ck the long tail..
Hi RJ:
I couldn’t agree more!
Great post
Cheers
JB
Love it RJ,
I made a similar post on this issue recently at the link in my name.
More people need to know about this.
Keep up the good work.
Andrew
R.J is right, just because there is ton of people out there doing it,Does not mean that you can’t. Wow another loser that gives up before they even try.
Damn! I was just about to go into the sausage making niche and now you’ve put me right off :0)
RJ,
Once again you are right on the money! Just wish I could get the rankings up there with the “big dogs”.
You forgot one of the sub-categories in the wealth section… Write an ebook filled with affiliate links about how people should be doing niche marketing and then go out and send to your list and sell the hell out of it. People pay for that pie in the sky junk information…
Just kidding.
Hey mate,
Thought I’d drop by.
Thank you for addressing this issue in your blog. When I started the thread in the WF it was out of frustration. I had this false idea in my mind that if you want to be successful online you have to come up with something very original, somthing that has never been tried before. Something totally new. But all the great guys on the forum and now you with your post effectivly shifted me into another state of mind. And that is: sell what people need, not what you think people should need. Thanks!
I chose a large niche with a lot of competiton, but I figure that means more social networking possibilities and more affiliates to mine. Also, it ties in to two of the subjects above, health and wealth, so there you go! I need to work more on the health and wealth angles, though.
Thanks for the post. Most helpful. Really enjoying your blog.
Well RJ,those niches are ok but the porn and sex niche is where it’s at. Hey noob,Do this go get a book on starting a porn Biz”RayWest”Then some girls a camera, model release,a 2257 document and provide content to people with websites,i just brought exclusive rights from a content provider,a whole a lot of it,build yourself a picture gallery,or and ebay store and sell the content to adult website owners.Hope this helps, and RJ stop the B.S. you know your in the porn niche as well and that’s the best niche to get into you can start with $500 bucks and it’s fun unlike that other stuff.
Way to set him straight RJ. Why does everyone complain so fast. If they really want to make money they should be a MASTER AFFILIATE. Now that is a niche. I think CashInAffiliates is what this kid needs.
Dunno man. I’ve got a killer! But yeah you’ve sort of got a point for those that have NO IMAGINATION!
Been a fan of yours for a long time… ever since I bought your ebook. You crack me up!
Man… when are people going to get it. Feed a starving crowd!
His Eminence (i.e. you RJ) is truly a second Machiavelli…

I am new to online marketing. I happened on the two sites above, and they both recommended niche marketing, content, specifically, a program named SBI! I trusted the advice, but now I am wondering if I made a mistake. I would appreciate your take on SiteBuildIt, moreover, the logic. Since I already bought in to the damn thing, is there a way to turn it to my advantage. I got a few bucks to play with, but I cannot afford to throw it away. There are too many Gurus playing the field and feeding off our (newbie) stupidity. I need to generate a reliable income from home, I will spare you the sad story, and hard-times dribble. I am just tired of pissing against the wind. Point me in the right direction and I shall prostrate myself at your feet and sing your praise to the world, or whatever…
Who need niches?
I don’t use any niches !
Ok rich boy, to be fair your not a faggot like I said earlier. You dealt with it like a man, and I respect that.
However, from what I can see it’s not your traffic you should be working on; it’s your conversions!
If you guys pulled RJ’s dick out of your mouth for 1 second you’d wake the fuck up!
Look I respect the guy but I don’t choke myself on nobody’s cock!
Cause thats what you guys are doing.
My advice is to look at all the angels, and then make an informed decision.
Don’t abandon all hope in niche marketing just because one guy say’s so. Even if he is reasonably clever.
William, RJ isn’t saying you can’t make money with niches. He said you can make $5k a month with it, which is much more than most internet marketers make. So a lot of people will be thrilled with that.
He’s just saying not to pick a TINY niche because there’s so much more money to be made in the big markets. Niches are a fine way to start, but it’s not the end all solution that’s going to make anybody wildly rich.
Love the stuff. I am a newbie and plan to stick it out untill death. I see the big big picture and nothing can stop me from succeeding.
Thanks to the The RichJerk I am on my way. First website was a crap but second better.

I have not only increased my web traffic from RJs advice, but from the others that blog here!
My thanks to all! You guys all ROCK!
