I just read an interesting article over at CNet about how the latest internet gold rush is officially dying.
For those of you who don’t keep up with stuff, allow me to translate – recently, all the hype on how to make quick riches online had to do with Facebook Applications.
Basically, you create some type of software widget people could put on their Facebook pages, you get the billions of retards on Facebook to use it, and then you sell out to people with money (that is, if you hadn’t figured out some way to monetize your application your own damn self).
According to the CNet article, Facebook has reached critical mass, and Facebook Apps as a way of getting rich online are going the way of the dodo. Mass proliferation of crappy applications, plus the advent of OpenSocial, and the fact that Facebook is run by a raging loony-bin of retards, means that the gold rush is over.
Can you not make any money off a Facebook App? Sure you can. I’m certain it’s still possible. Would you want to go through the trouble of doing so? Not in my opinion.
Lemme tell you a little sumtin’ sumtin (and pay attention, because this knowledge bomb is gonna make you a lot of money in the long run)…
New developments on the internet have a fast lifespan. They burn bright and hot for a few months, and then they die. In order to take advantage of them, you have to be ON TOP OF SHIT. You gotta be reading about the latest technologies comin’ down the grapevine, you gotta beat the crowd to them, you gotta know how to make money with them, and you have to know when to LEAVE and move on.
It’s sort of like day trading.
Do people get rich day trading stocks? Sure. Do they get wealthy? No. They’re always too busy working to make a quick buck rather than to get the big money.
To me, all this social media, web 2.0 horse ka-ka is nothing but another avenue for LEAD GENERATION.
If you have a solid business, you use these outlets to generate leads for that business, and that will make you money LONG TERM. A business is something you can keep going indefinitely, a perpetual money machine. A fad is something that will make you money in the short term, but is unsustainable in the long haul (stuff like adsense sites, Facebook Apps, etc.).
So for those of you out there who are worried about missing the boat on the next “big thing,” don’t sweat it. Stick to the fundamentals – the kind of fundamentals I teach you in my book. That stuff will ALWAYS make you money. And you don’t have to chase after it like a desperate snake oil salesman. You can take your time, master it, and make real sustainable money.
For instance – everyone is looking at Facebook and writing off the App business. Some people are testing out their advertising system too (which sucks huge donkey balls, by the way). But if you really want to know how to use Facebook to make MFM, here’s what you do…
Create a profile…
Get an ass-load of friends…
Promote as many offers to those friends as you can.
It works! Because you’re generating LEADS and then MARKETING to them. Simple, straightforward, and effective. Good ol’ marketing brew-ha-ha. And you don’t have to be a geek programmer to do it.
It’s easy to get caught up in hype. But always, always, ALWAYS stick to the fundamentals, and you can never go wrong.

-RJ

Facebook has gotten so overrun with apps that people don’t like accepting and using them very much anymore. You could still do something cool, but it would need to be an app that targets a certain group and have the ability to market stuff to those people. I’m not sure if that’s possible but it would be a way of still capitalizing on the app craze (as weak as it’s becoming) and still stick to the basics of lead generation.
I never could really get into facebook. It just seems like a pain in my a**!

Ok, RJ..Now since you have given so much valuable tips to us …for the WH marketing world, it’s time to now give us some killer tips on BH world!
Using your WH seo tips , I’ve been able to get my site upto #14 for 10 million competition in Google, but it all is a slow process continually demanding something. And I don’t like keeping track of everything while advertising on adwords as well. So, I wanna go into BH especially cloaking!
Since you told me all about cloaking, and I have set a few sites for it as well, can you please tell me how to make a killing with all those BH sites ?
Comeon! How to make sure so that those BH sites succeed in seo? How do you get links to them :- just like the WH sites? What terms you target: longtail, mis-spellings etc.? Do you do geo-targeting with it in terms of ‘keywords’? What kinds of niches would cloaking work best in?
You said you have very successfully used F**to*as**r !
Please share more experiences and knowledge! What is the maximum money a cloaked site has EVER made you?
(For the motivation to go on
The morons asked you a lot and you gave your time to them to write responsive posts! Now, it’s your dearest loser asking something
I hope you won’t get me disappointed!:)

Okay, I admit… I actually created a MySpace account back in February – only because a really cool, hot (uniformed) coworker had one with pictures on it that I wanted to see. Of course, you have to have a site to see a site, and I was leaving the grind to become UNemployable!
Basically, it was a way to keep in touch, and I stayed away from the nonsense that gave MySpace its negative rep. But I did see why all the insecure kiddies and tweenies love it, as well as the porn star wannabees.
Next up, an old girl friend contacts me on Classmates, and says that she has a Facebook account that she is active on. So again, I had to create one to see hers, but it motivated me since I was due to have a Facebook site because of what I had heard and read about Web 2.0 right here on RJ’s Blog! So I put a quick one together and throw a few of my cash gifting domains on there, and VOILA! A regular check of my site’s stats page and an IP address locator tells me that she has been there three separate times! On our recent exchange of emails she starts to ask me about it! I never did anything to solicit her to my site, other than make a hyperlink easily available to her. So, I have done next to NADA and have attracted yet another hot lead! And this is after, as RJ alludes, the big wave that is Facebook has come and gone! By the way, it really is a glorified adult version of MySpace, with all its “poking” and hugging and graphics and games and stuff. blah!
My next stop is to get set up in LinkedIn, and any other social site I come across. It really doesn’t matter to me what is hot at the time, as my business is not a fly-by-night sensation. If someone clicks on my site today or next year, I will be here to gladly accept their sign up!
It’s all about just simply getting visitors to my site – and I don’t care where they come from! They’ll either “get it” or they won’t. I am not too big on Google Adwords right now, because I am just not seeing the ROI for the price I must pay for the “effective” keywords. It may just take some more tweaking. I have found that I am getting a much better response from those folks that may not have even heard of Cash Gifting, stumble upon my site, and get excited and ready to run with it! Therefore, I employ various other ways to promote, often offline.
So, for me, it’s all about variety and having fun mixing it up. Hey, that’s what the Big Kahuna RJ has been telling us right along! Stick to the fundamentals of marketing…

“Always stick to the Fundamentals”
I think every once in a while, like 1-2 weeks you are trying to help us focus on the BIG PICTURE instead of the small-time picture.
I can’t agree anymore with. All of these loopholes and blackhats techniques are great for making money in the SHORT TERM.
Let me conclude this post.
All of the blackhat stuff, social bookmarking and all of those short-term goldmines should NOT be relied on as your income. Rather they should relied on as “quick” or “fast” money to INVEST in REAL business.- Your real business is what you should focus on, because that is what will make your WEALTHY. Wealth and making money are totally different.
So always concentrate on the long term not short term.
Right now, I’m doing some blackhat stuff.-It’s a loophole but I’m going to invest that money in my business
Right on R.J..
Any blog that puts the boot into that crap-hole called facebook is tops in my book and in anything its the fundamentals that will get you over the line, whether its sports or money.
However it would be foolish to not give social-media their props as it is definitely the direction the internet is going but as for hiring a programmer from Bangladesh to design a cool new zombie app to push out on FBook would be completely insane even though Fbook has the worst privacy of any company on the internet and gives you evey looser-user who downloads your application.. yeah a great way to generate leads especially when you consider every user on Fbook is a college graduate or employed in a over stressed job paying off their first car and looking at hopefully getting married etc..
Yeah stay clear of FBook not like you want to contact those people about making money or market info about other info product like buying cars discounted at Govt auctions, reducing college debt or what have you…
This is why I liked your book. You cover it all…
I just bought your eBook, and seem to be fallen in love with it
Facebook? Never visited them… Thanks for the tips RJ, I will look in to them
Facebook is too overrated.. Ever since John Reese (whom I highly respect) went on that Facebook mission to accrue 5000 friends, I too was overwhelmed by “Add friend” requests. And on top of it, too few people out of the groups are active.
And on top of it, I’ve yet to make any sales, or get any response out of my Facebook contacts.
Just started in on facebook a few days ago getting ready to roll out everything I got to the facebook community. Looks like this post just saved me more than a few hours of waisted time.
